Jake Lawler is a former football player and a Broadcast Journalism Major at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. His essay in response to the murder of George Floyd was featured on ESPN and has so far garnered 1.2 million views. He is passionate about storytelling and creating stories that represent a diverse group of people and situations. Jake has already written a short fiction story, a personal piece about his battle with depression, three short film screenplays, and two television pilots. During his time at UNC-CH, he was a three-time ACC Academic Honor Roll member and a three-time UNC Scholar-Athlete recipient. He also was a Board Member with UNC’s Student-Athlete Advisory Council. Outside of his role as a student-athlete, Jake is a co-founder of UNCUT, a multimedia organization that helps athletes express their true selves.
